The world of work is constantly evolving and over the past few years, we've seen a significant shift towards remote working. While global events played a part in accelerating this trend, advances in technology and changing attitudes about where and how work should be done were already paving the way. So what happens when a travel nurse and a software engineer, two professions with distinct demands and environments, step into this new remote working era? In this article, we'll share our insights, highlighting the benefits of this evolving work landscape.
To explore Australia on my days off has to be one of the biggest perks. From hiking in Kalbarri National Park to snorkelling the Abrolhos Islands to whale watching at Byron Lighthouse to surfing at Scotts Head, these are all things I get to do on contracts. I meet lifelong friends and do things out of my comfort zone.
They say change is as good as a holiday. A new work environment has me constantly learning new skills. A huge thanks to my colleagues who are usually willing to teach me.
Accommodation, cash bonuses and travel costs are often offered, these will differ slightly depending on where you are willing to work and which agency you decide to go with. It is also worth mentioning, you get to choose when you take time off!
The biggest benefit to remote working for me is the ability to travel. Whilst remote working we have been cruising up and down the coast of NSW staying in each town for around a month a time. Its as close as it gets to a never ending vacation and there is no better way to get to know this beautiful country. From snorkelling to surfing to sunsets remote working puts the life in work-life balance.
Remote working gives you more time and more time means more flexibility. The ability simply close your laptop instead of commuting home enables me to do more with my days than just work. I have more time for things like exercise, personal projects and quality time with my partner.
I have found I am able to focus more easily with less distractions when working remotely. Software Engineering is a job that often required hours of deep focus whilst you navigate large codebases and hold 100's of lines of code as context in your head. One "Hey, do you have a minute" or "Do you want to grab a coffee?" can delay you getting your work done for hours.
We feel extremely lucky to be in a position where we can coast along this beautiful country and hope you can join us one day!
Happy Coasting!
