Nestled in the picturesque Manning Valley, our latest placement is in the historic town of Wingham, hailed as the oldest town on the Barrington Coast. Join me on a journey as I unveil the finest natural attractions in Wingham and its surrounding areas.

Wingham Brush Nature Reserve

Follow the boardwalk track and weave through the lush nature reserve teeming with fig trees. Take a moment to gaze upwards at the canopy where you'll discover a colony of grey-headed flying foxes. This 1.9km path also showcases a variety of bird species and river views.

Manning River

A short distance from the Wingham Brush Nature Reserve lies the Manning River, meandering through Taree and Wingham. At the Wingham Riverside Reserve, self-contained vehicles are welcome to park overnight (free camping). There are toilets, picnic tables/BBQ areas and bins.

My partner and I decided to invest in an inflatable kayak from BCF, and paddling along the Manning River has become a fantastic way to unwind after work. As you navigate the river's course, expect to come across steep cliffs, lush foliage, and many cows!

"The Legendary Ellenborough Falls"

A 40-minute drive from Wingham will bring you to the awe-inspiring sight of the tallest single-drop waterfall in NSW, standing at an impressive 200 metres and ranking among the Southern Hemisphere's tallest. Embark on a descent down 641 steps to reach the base of this mighty waterfall, where you can experience the powerful cascade and feel the refreshing mist.

Beaches!

While Wingham may not be considered a coastal town, it is conveniently situated just a 30 to 40 minute drive from the beach. Forster boasts stunning beaches, rockpools, and restaurants, while Crowdy Head offers gentle rolling waves suitable for beginner surfers. Blueys Beach is an enchanting town nestled against cliffs along the coastline. The Barrington Coast boasts stunning beaches just waiting to be explored.

This was an area I wasn't initially familiar with, but I've been pleasantly surprised by the abundance of activities available on my days off. I hope you enjoy your time on the Barrington Coast!

Happy Coasting!
